As in previous years, MiX was proud to sponsor the Golf Day during the Road Freight Association (RFA) Convention, held this time at the Legend Golf and Safari Resort in Polokwane, South Africa, from 22 to 24 May. Ten lucky golfers were treated to a helicopter flip to the Extreme 19th hole at the top of the Hangklip Mountain. ‘Extreme 19th’ is the world's longest and highest Par 3, with a 361-metre shot to the green, which is nestled at the foot of the mountain and shaped like the African continent.

In Australia, we recently hosted a safety webinar open to customers, with 78 people registering to take part. The one-hour session was geared to help fleet managers keep their employees safe while out on the road. Amanda Warmerdam from The Accident Research Centre at Monash University, Stewart O’Brien, a MiX Telematics training manager, and customer Borg Manufacturing each provided key insights on how to boost and maintain driver safety.

Once again, MiX was proud to be the official sponsor of the Truck Rodeo competition organised by Raízen in Brazil, for whom several MiX customers transport goods such as ethanol, gasoline and diesel to Shell gas stations across the country. The competition is designed to enhance safety on the roads and prevent accidents, and does so by recognising and rewarding carriers and drivers who demonstrate safety excellence in the field. In total, 10 drivers participated, representing 36 fuel carriers.

We’re delighted to announce that MiX Telematics is now a gold partner to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) in South Africa, and a proud sponsor of their inspired WaterWise programme. Sadly, 600 children die from drowning in the country each year. WaterWise educates children about water safety to prevent drowning tragedies and has, since 2006, taught 800,000 children how to perform CPR. Our donation will enable them to teach 5,000 more! So while MiX’s technology continues to save lives on the road, our sponsorship will help the NSRI do the same around water.

Middle East customer BAPCO recently finished training 200 employees in defensive driving techniques through the implementation of MiX Telematics’s e-Learning program. The final 20 people trained in December were from BAPCO’s EHS Committee, the group of people responsible for deciding to address the training need. BAPCO sought an effective e-Learning safety solution to help reduce their risk and accident rates.

After a successful trial, existing customer Linde Gas in Brazil has decided to fit 130 of their vehicles with our innovative dual-camera video recording device, MiX Vision. The inclusion of MiX Vision in some vehicles comes about two years after Linde Gas made the decision to fit their fleet with MiX’s premium fleet management solution. MiX Vision will assist the operator to monitor driving behaviour more closely and curb unsafe practices like driving without a seatbelt and using a mobile phone while driving.

In December 2015, our MiX Brazil team held its fourth Channel Partner Conference in Guarulhos, São Paulo, over the course of two days. In total, 32 participants attended including the MiX sales team. The event provided the ideal opportunity for us to share our sales strategy for the region, our latest product innovations, as well as relevant commercial policies with our channel partners.

Our MiX Fleet Manager solution is helping Northern Ireland milk collection specialist North Down Grain to achieve savings of up to 12% on its annual fuel expenditure. North Down Grain Director Philip Davidson pointed out that the savings have been realised and sustained over the long term, following comprehensive operational analysis by MiX – specifically by one of our fleet consultants who works closely with the customer in helping to achieve their goals.

In conjunction with our New Zealand channel partner, Vehicle Technologies, MiX participated in the Bus and Coach Association Conference that took place in Hamilton from 8 to 10 October. The event represented a valuable opportunity to promote recently launched solutions, while visitors could also learn about the benefits of our in-cab driving aids through our "bus in a box" demo. Former police officer Robert Peel, who was a key member of a project team that pioneered the use of on-board data recorders at Surrey Police, has been appointed to the position of Project Consultant – Emergency Services, for MiX Telematics. Robert looks forward to applying his industry knowledge to further develop the use and application of our telematics solutions for emergency services organisations throughout the United Kingdom.

In Australia, we recently joined forces with reputable charity, Brake, in co-hosting a webinar that explored the topic of in-vehicle technology and how it can be used to improve fleet safety. Industry practitioners from ARRB Group and the Monash University Accident Research Centre shared their insights, as did Wayne Fee, our Head of Sales at MiX. Auckland-based Red Bus, a customer of ours through channel partner Vehicle Technologies, added further substance by demonstrating the value they’ve derived through the implementation of one of our solutions.

We’ve taken reporting to the next level with MiX Insight Agility, a newly launched extension to the MiX Insight Reports suite that allows for dynamic data interaction in Microsoft Excel. The reporting tool is available to existing MiX Insight Report users, and can be enabled on request via our MiX Fleet Manager or MiX SafeDrive platforms. Unlike static reports, users finally have the power to create and shape customised reports in the format they prefer.

The development follows a similar re-launch of our UK and Brazil websites a few months ago, all of which supports a growing level of marketing activity across our regions. Our websites are built in-house by a specialist marketing team who aimed for a cleaner look-and-feel, enhanced navigation and a more engaging user experience.

The European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) announced the 2015 winners of its PRAISE awards, recognising organisations that have taken outstanding measures to improve road safety at work. One of the three winning companies was OMV Petrom, the largest oil and gas producer in Southeastern Europe and a MiX Telematics customer based in Romania. We've been working closely with OMV Petrom since 2012, providing them with an integrated vehicle monitoring system for around 10,000 drivers. OMV Petrom has had no road-related deaths or serious injuries in last three years.

Marc is a highly experienced industry professional with a decade of experience in the field of telematics. On 5 November 2015, MiX announced financial results for the second quarter and first half of fiscal year 2016. Highlights include: an increase in subscribers by 13% year over year, bringing the total to over 540,000 subscribers at 30 September 2015, and first half subscription revenue of R557 million ($40 million), which grew 16% year over year. In October, MiX announced a partnership with Global Beam Telecom in the United Arab Emirates and, just yesterday, another with Turker in Turkey. Both arrangements will assist us in expanding our reach in the Middle East, while enabling us to strengthen our offerings to local fleet operators. “As demand for our proven solutions increases, it’s important we work with industry partners that are equipped to provide superior service and support to both existing and new customers,” said Brodie Von Berg, Head of Sales for MiX Telematics Middle East and Asia.

Della Volpe in Brazil has been using our MiX Fleet Manager Premium solution to manage 291 trucks and will soon be expanding this to an additional 114 vehicles based in the city of Paruapebas-PA, in the north of Brazil. This is a dedicated fleet for the mining operations of Vale do Rio Doce, a multinational mining corporation and the third largest mining corporation in the world. The MiX solution includes driver behaviour monitoring as well as Hours of Service management and has enabled Della Volpe to improve the behaviour of their drivers and decrease fuel consumption.

The Go-Ahead Group in the UK has selected MiX as its fleet management provider for the next three years. The agreement – which started in, and has been ongoing since, 2007 – will see 4,500 Go-Ahead vehicles nationwide continuing to benefit from the fitment of our flagship MiX Fleet Manager Premium solution. The customer looks forward to continued safety and efficiency benefits as well as to taking advantage of new developments that include the implementation of MyMiX – our newly launched driver engagement platform.

In early October, MiX Telematics and African channel partner Komatel, attended a seminar in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The two-day gathering included multiple South African business representatives from diverse industries, as well as government officials from the DRC. Participants, including the Minister of Infrastructure and Commerce who visited our stand, spent valuable time discussing business opportunities that might serve to support key economic growth in the country.
